About JumpStart
JumpStart is a 2D game engine developed in Free Pascal that utilizes SDL for grahpics and Lua as the game development language.
The plans are to go cross platform Windows and Linux by the end of 2006. Currently the engine is Windows only, but the linux version
is almost stable.
Currently the documentation part of the project is the most lacking part. This is also being worked on now that the engine itself is at
a stable stage of development. The release version ships with demo projects showing how to use the different aspects of the engine
as well as a complete game (Tank Brigade).
Tank Brigade is also available as a stand alone download. Basically its a game constructed around the SpriteLib GPL graphics that
are freely available on the web. The game play is simple, and in general the game is ment to show that a complete game can be developed
and deployed with the engine as it stands today.
Currently JumpStart supports many features including:
Mouse events and mouse actions
Simple wrappers for string input
Loading of image files (PNG, BMP, and TGA) with full transparency
Alpha transparency within images whos file format supports it
Loading of WAV files for music and sound effects
Loading of OGG files for music and sound effects
Cross platform rendering engine (SDL)
Cross platform scripting engine (Lua)
Sprite engine with ZIndex sorting and full collision detection
Pixel perfect, Rectangular, and Circular collision detection
Keyboard management
TTF and Image based font support
Planned features for the engine are:
Toolkit for easing of game design and implementation
And much more...
